Description
The myth behind Marafa’s Hell’s Kitchen is that a wealthy, extravagant family angered God by bathing in milk instead of water and refusing to help the poor, leading to divine wrath that opened the earth beneath their home, creating the canyon. Scientifically, the formations are the result of geological processes, specifically soil degradation and erosion that have carved the sandstone into its unique, colorful shapes. The colors of the canyon, like white, red, and yellow, are attributed to the minerals present, such as calcium and iron, and are particularly striking at sunset.
